With registration for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) now under way and the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) application period approaching, university information days offer an important opportunity for parents and students to learn about the distinctive features of different institutions, compare programme options and understand admission arrangements. Students are encouraged to check the schedules in advance, so they can better prepare for subject selection, the ordering of JUPAS programme choices and their overall further study plans.

EdCity will organise the parent seminar “Decoding JUPAS Multi-Strategy Planning for University Admissions” on 29 September 2026, from 7:30pm–9:00pm. The seminar aims to help parents and students understand JUPAS application strategies and plan their further study pathways early. 1. Understand JUPAS and non-JUPAS application information: Information days give students a timely opportunity to clarify application procedures, key dates, required documents—such as proof of regional-level awards—and important reminders for both JUPAS and non-JUPAS pathways before they submit their applications.

Explore institutional characteristics and learning environments: Each university has its own features, teaching approach, campus facilities, learning support, accommodation arrangements, exchange opportunities and industry connections. Visiting in person helps students consider whether an institution fits their learning style and long-term goals.
3. Compare programme content and admission requirements in depth: Departmental talks often cover programme structures, core and elective courses, internship or overseas exchange opportunities, graduate prospects, admission criteria, interview arrangements and portfolio requirements, where applicable. These details can help students compare options more realistically and make better-informed choices.

Experience campus culture first-hand: Campus tours, laboratory visits, departmental exhibitions and student sharing sessions allow students to get a more concrete sense of university life, the learning atmosphere and campus culture. These first-hand observations are often more useful than searching online.

Tips Before Your Visit

University information days are usually packed with activities, from admission talks and departmental introductions to laboratory visits, campus tours, programme exhibitions, student sharing sessions and on-site consultations. Parents and students should set aside enough time and check the relevant university websites beforehand for the event rundown, talk schedules and registration details.

Popular sessions, such as admission talks or departmental tours, may require advance registration, on-site queuing or admission on a first-come, first-served basis. University campuses are spacious and activities may take place in different buildings.  Please allow extra time for travelling, walking and waiting, especially during peak hours (e.g. 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.). A less tightly packed schedule will make your visit more manageable.

Friendly Reminder for Parents and Students

When preparing for further study choices, parents may encourage students to actively compare different institutions and programmes, and to consider their options comprehensively from the perspectives of personal interests, abilities, academic performance, learning modes and future development. Making good use of university information days can help students set their goals earlier and make more thorough and informed preparations for JUPAS choice prioritisation and future study planning.

As JUPAS mainly covers bachelor’s degree and sub-degree programmes funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC), as well as self-financing bachelor’s degree programmes under the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP), students should also understand the role of E-APP. E-APP is a platform for advance applications to locally accredited self-financing bachelor’s degree, associate degree and higher diploma programmes outside JUPAS. If students also wish to apply for self-financing post-secondary programmes not covered by E-APP, or for overseas programmes, they should submit applications separately through the online application systems of the individual institutions.
