Get to Know the PICCKS Student Scheme: Inspiring Self-Directed Learning with Diverse Resources

When encouraging your child to read more or participate in extracurricular activities, does it often feel like a constant tug-of-war? What if there were a platform featuring rich, high-quality learning resources that could motivate your child to explore knowledge independently and build good study habits? Would this be the ideal learning tool every parent looks for?

Hong Kong Education City (EdCity) has in recent years launched the PICCKS Student Scheme, offering activities across various academic disciplines to help students engage in self-directed learning and consolidate their knowledge. This year, the scheme has been upgraded with additional activities and competitions, enabling students to build a more comprehensive and diversified "e-Learning Profile."

What is PICCKS? How Does It Help Your Child?

PICCKS Student Scheme is an incentive scheme launched by EdCity in recent years aimed at promoting students' whole-person development. The six English letters correspond to six different learning attributes, namely: Positive Mindset and Values(P), Innovation and Creativity(I), Communication and Collaboration(C), Citizenship(C), Knowledge and Skills(K), and Sportsmanship(S).

Through the PICCKS Student Scheme, children can discover their strengths beyond exams and tests, enhancing their self-directed learning abilities through diverse learning experiences:

  1. Multi-Dimensional Learning Modes ("Watch, Read, Write, Answer, Do")

EdCity integrates rich platform resources and specific projects to enable independent learning across multiple formats:

  1. Moderate Reward Mechanism to Maintain Learning Momentum

Whether watching short videos, completing quizzes, or submitting work, students earn PICCKS points. An encouraging reward system adds fun to learning, allowing children to gain a sense of achievement as they reach their goals.

  1. Clear E-Learning Records to Track Growth

PICCKS Student Scheme automatically logs every student's activity and milestone achievements. Through our dashboard, parents do not need to constantly check or ask about the progress; simple log in can check children's efforts and growth effortlessly.

Joining hands to drive self-directed learning: How Parents Can Leverage PICCKS Student Scheme

Parental support is the key driving force behind the success of this scheme. As guides, to help children gradually adapt to the rhythm of self-directed learning, parents can encourage them to join extracurricular activities after school, as well as incorporate fun online micro-tasks that empower children to take ownership of their own learning.

To assist students in cultivating self-learning habit, EdCity hosts "PICCKS Self-Learning Challenge" throughout various school holidays and term periods during the year. Closely aligned with the six core learning attributes, these challenges help students make effective use of digital self-learning resources, allowing them to continuously accumulate learning outcomes through diverse daily tasks and build a habit of everyday self-directed learning.

Featured Extended Activity: "PICCKS GO!" – Making Self-Study a Daily Habit

To further encourage students to systematically utilize online resources and integrate self-learning into daily life, EdCity has introduced the "PICCKS GO!" campaign for this school year (September 2026 to August 2027).

Participants simply complete a registration form in advance, and EdCity will send a monthly learning resource list on the 30th of each month (28th for February). On that day, students just need to log in to the EdCity website and use the specified learning resources (e.g., watching videos, taking knowledge quizzes) to earn extra rewards PICCKS points or exclusive Small Campus commemorative furniture rewards! If children persevere and complete monthly tasks a designated number of times, they will also be awarded an electronic certificate of encouragement.

Register now to challenge the monthly tasks, and cultivate your child's e-learning and self-directed learning capabilities to prepare them for future digital developments!
